Newly signed Boston Red Sox outfielder Adam Duvall doesn’t have much experience playing within the confines of Fenway Park.
After nine seasons in the National League, Duval played just four games at home in Boston. The unfamiliarity will be a challenge when deploying the outfield, as Duvall is expected to establish himself as the Red Sox’ starting center fielder.
“The biggest issue is dimensions.” Duvall told reporters Wednesday, per MassLive’s Chris Cotillo. “I looked at certain plays and thought about how I could learn how to hit the ball off the wall or handle the ball in the gap. … We are thinking of ways to get used to the park.”
One way Duvall plans to do is enlist the help of current members of the Red Sox, particularly Kiké Hernández, to speed up the new outfield home.

Hernández, who helped sign Duvall to Boston, has played center for the Red Sox the past two seasons, so he should be a trusted source and can give Duvall advice to help him transition.
“I’m probably the first person I go to for advice… It’s a very unique ballpark. It will take some work to get used to…” Duvall told reporters, according to Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald. “I am ready for a challenge and looking forward to it. To be honest, I want to go quickly.”
Duval has the ability to play all three outfield positions, but spent most of his injury-shortened 2022 campaign with the Atlanta Braves in center field.
