Former soldier arrested for attempted suicide in Mantralaya

Marine Drive police arrested a former army officer who attempted suicide in the early hours of Thursday at Mantralaya, the administrative headquarters of the Maharashtra government in Mumbai. The arrested individual, identified as Suresh Munde, was shaken up by the cheating incident.

.

Munde resided in the Beed district of Marathwada district. Beed police took no action against local politicians involved in the cheating incident. Munde said he made this decision out of frustration.

.

However, this is not the first time someone has attempted suicide at Mantralaya in protest of government delays or inaction.

The Nanded contractor, along with his wife, attempted to set themselves on fire outside Mantralaya in May last year by dousing them with kerosene and burning them.

A farmer in Pune attempted suicide in August 2021, when the MVA government was in power, by consuming poisonous substances outside the gates of Mantralaya. Subhash Jadhav tried to complain to the police about some people taking over his land. With no action from the police, he decided to come to Mantralaya. He wanted to meet CM Uddhav Thackeray and Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil, but he was not allowed into Mantralaya.
