A mother of three grown-up children, an activist, a writer, a divorcee after marrying her childhood sweetheart, and a philanthropist… Mira Gandhi has seen it all… She learned something from every experience.
Meera Gandhi said when she was in India for the launch of her book, “My life at every stage has in many ways taught me lessons that will help me move forward.” 3 Tips: The Essentials of Peace, Joy and Success.
a thoroughly brought up Mumbai girl; Meera spent weekends at Mother Teresa’s Ashadaan while growing up. The seeds of philanthropy were sown in her at an early age. “I played with the kids there, shared books with them, taught them. I liked doing that rather than doing nothing and hanging out with my schoolmates,” she remembers Meera. “Often my friends and siblings wondered why I was doing this, but… She was very happy that I had found my calling.”
Born to an Irish mother and an Indian father, Meera grew up absorbing the nuances of both cultures. Her mother ensured that she and her siblings both got the best of it. She drove them to a nearby church on her Vespa scooter on Sundays. Meera’s biblical value of gratitude is inscribed.

A natural leader, Meera spent her college years in India leading the fraternity in countless activities and introducing them to the ‘giving’ side. She wanted to go to Harvard, but her admission was denied.
“It was a learning experience in itself,” says Meera. She said, “I passed the final interview. The area is dark when I get there. I had a problem with my shoe and bent down to fix it. And suddenly a light came on in the lobby. Looking up at her, an old woman
lobby. I asked her – ‘Where is her room number? XXX’? She showed me the way and disappeared. When I saw her in her room as her interviewer I realized she had no manners for her! She gave me the toughest interview/scan I have ever faced. She turned against me the fact that I didn’t even want her in her. It taught me a lesson. That one should always smile, make a wish, and express gratitude.”
Meera married her childhood sweetheart at a fairly young age and soon became a mother of three. It was the most satisfying thing of her life. Her journey as a mother has taught her to be patient. She said, “I also learned that she teaches innocent children to learn without prejudice… and I learned the true meaning of unconditional love!”
Always a spiritual person, Meera was initiated into meditation by Deepak Chopra in 2005. She, she and she came to regular meditation twice a day while learning the Shambhavi technique. Today, I regularly meditate alone. Sometimes four hours a day — and every Deepak Chopra guided meditation I can get my hands on.
By 2010, Meera’s children were independent and she was rediscovering herself. Traveling around the world, she discovered that in most countries women and children are the most marginalized component of society. The need for education and empowerment was clear. Meera founded The Giveback Foundation. The foundation is today located in St. Paul’s, Delhi. Michael’s School is being funded directly. The foundation joins many other organizations that educate underprivileged children in various countries and organizations working for the advancement of women. Proceeds from hair care products and candles made by Mira are donated to the foundation.

Perhaps the most turbulent period in Meera’s life was when her marriage ended in 2012. Some saw it as another divorce, but Meera admits it was one of the most vulnerable stages of her life. “Divorce is divorce. Beggars or billionaires. Emotional upheaval is the same. I won’t deny that it broke me down and made me find myself again… ” Meera confesses. “People think that wealthy Americans are different. But it isn’t. It’s as much of a burden as a nerd housewife from an Indian village. Although I agree that being financially sound reduces anxiety.”
Mira has emerged as a legendary phoenix. She took care of her business, raised her children and pulled herself through her dump. “I put myself together, found myself again, and started The Meera Gandhi Show for B4U in the US in 2017.” This show changed Meera’s life in many ways. She soon became a household name in America. The most popular part of the show was the shortest part of the show, 3 Tips! “The producer soon asked me to reduce the time for the remaining 2 parts and increase the time for the 3 tips. She realized that there are too many people who want to know how to deal with life. Everyone wanted a shortcut to happiness.”
It was this realization, along with her basic urge to give it back to the universe, that prompted Meera to write the book 3 Tips – The Essentials of Peace, Joy and Success.
“The idea is to make more and more people happy. And if my advice can help them regain peace and happiness, I’m happy to help.”
“There is nothing happier than giving joy and peace to others. I believe there is only as much in the universe as we give back to it,” Meera concluded.
