The Electoral Commission of India (ECI) was established on 25 January 1950 and since 2011 the founding date of the Commission has been celebrated nationally as National Voters’ Day.

The Director and other officials have sworn allegiance to democracy and to preserve the democratic traditions of our country. They also pledged to uphold the sanctity of elections by conducting them in a free and fair manner.

The day is celebrated on a large scale to increase voter participation in elections and especially to encourage new voters to register their names on the voter rolls and register their names with ease.
