A notorious robber recently released from prison has been re-arrested by the Crime Branch (District III) of the Mira Bayandar-Vasai Birar (MBVV) Police for his involvement in a series of lighthouse break-ins. in the twin cities.

According to police, the accused, identified as Akram Farookh Ansari, 24, was previously arrested and held in judicial custody for his involvement in more than a dozen thefts. After Akram was released in October 2022, he started committing crimes again. Surprised by the sudden nighttime theft, the crime branch roped in to conduct a parallel investigation into the case.
A team led by Police Inspector-Pramod Badhaak under the leadership of DCP (Criminal) Avinash Ambure was formed to investigate. During the investigation, the investigative team analyzed the crime scene captured on CCTV and the bike thief’s escape route to confirm his identity. The team activates a network of informants and, following a tip, arrests him in Palghar district.

“A cursory investigation revealed his involvement in 14 unsolved thefts in Virar over a period of two months. The accused committed the crime to fund their drug consumption habits,” said Badhaak. In addition to the bicycle used in the crime, the police also recovered stolen loot, including mobile phones, gold and silver jewelry, with a total value of more than 2.89 million rupees, from the belongings of the accused, who were charged under sections 380 and 454 of the IPC.
