What to expect from Ubisoft in 2023 (and what not to)

Lastly, here’s a Ubisoft game that’s least likely to release in 2023, or perhaps ever. It’s really sad.

2003 original Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time It was revealing. An excellent game that reinvents the way all third person action games play, with an amazing time rewind mechanic and stunning 3D platforming. Sadly nobody had the sense to emulate it, and even after 20 years we are stuck in a quagmire of action games that endlessly kill us without moving on. Oh, and there was also a movie about Jake Zilneyhal rubbing salt on wounds.

A remake was announced for 2020 with an ambitious release date of January 2021. Spoiler alert: that didn’t happen, and considering how terribly it looked in the trailer above, it probably was for the best. It was then rather optimistically delayed until March 21, when they seemed to be kicking their way and admitting to themselves that it looked like a PS3 game. Later that year, Ubisoft said it would appear in fiscal year 2022-2023, then took it from Indian developer Ubisoft Mumbai and gave it to Ubisoft Montreal, then announced another delay last May without guessing the fiscal year.

By last November, the situation had worsened. Ubisoft has canceled all pre-orders and returned everyone’s money.. A useful lesson in why you shouldn’t pre-order a game that doesn’t exist yet. publisher claim that the match was not canceledHowever, it has yet to suggest a new release date, meaning that perhaps 2024 is also unlikely.

But hey, it’ll probably come out though before Beyond Good and Evil 2.
